MELT & POUR SOAP

Instructions for processing Melt and Pour Soap Base:

The first thing you need to do is melt the soap base. You can use the microwave oven or you can use the double boiler method.  Never let the soap boil, this can cause discoloration of the soap.

Thinly slice the soap base so it will melt easily.

Place the soap in a glass container and place it in the microwave for 30 seconds per half pound of soap base.

Remove and stir slowly (stirring quickly can cause bubbles and foaming).

Continue to microwave for another 30 seconds.

Add soap dye, stir until blended.  Food coloring can also be used, but may not last as long as other soap colorants.  You can also use natural colorants from herbs and spices.

Add skin safe fragrance.  We suggest you use approximately ½ teaspoon of scent per pound of soap base.  Don’t exceed 1 teaspoon per pound, adding to much scent to the soap could damage your molds.  The scent can also cause the final color to vary.

Pour into molds.

Let the soap cool for at least 12 hours before trying to remove it from the molds.  Wrap the soap in plastic wrap as soon as you remove it from the molds.
